Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 12 Tablespoons taco seasoning, or more to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup salsa

Tortillas and Toppings

  • 6 6-inch tortillas (flour or corn, see notes)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Olive oil, for spraying or brushing tortillas

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a medium-sized skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef along with 1/2 cup of chopped onion. Stir occasionally until meat is cooked through and onions are softened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Season the Meat: Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of salsa into the beef mixture. Adjust seasoning to your liking and mix well until evenly combined.
  4. Prepare the Tortillas: Lightly spray or brush both sides of the 6 tortillas with olive oil to ensure they crisp up nicely in the oven. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Spoon approximately 1/4 cup of the seasoned beef mixture onto one half of each tortilla. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat if desired. Fold each tortilla in half to create the taco shape.
  6. Bake the Tacos: Place the baking sheet with the assembled tacos in the preheated oven. Bake for 10 minutes, then carefully flip each taco using a spatula. Bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the tortillas are crispy and the cheese has melted.

Notes

  • You can use either flour or corn tortillas depending on your preference.
  • Additional toppings like sour cream, guacamole, or chopped cilantro can be added after baking for extra flavor.
  • To make this recipe spicier, increase the amount of taco seasoning or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • For a gluten-free option, ensure tortillas and seasoning mix are gluten free.
  • Leftover tacos can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
