Bread
- 1 French bread loaf (16 oz)
Filling
- 8 oz thinly sliced flank steak
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 cup sliced bell peppers (mixed colors)
- 1 cup sliced sweet onions
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the stuffed loaf.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the sliced onions and bell peppers until they become soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
- Cook Flank Steak: Push the cooked vegetables to one side of the skillet, add the seasoned flank steak with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, approximately 3-5 minutes.
- Prepare Bread Loaf: Slice the French bread lengthwise down the middle and carefully scoop out some of the soft bread from the center to create room for the filling.
- Assemble Filling: Mix the cooked steak and sautéed vegetables with the minced garlic and shredded provolone cheese, then spoon the mixture generously into each half of the hollowed bread loaf.
- Bake: Place the stuffed loaf halves on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
Notes
- For an extra garlicky flavor, you can spread some garlic butter on the inside of the bread before adding the filling.
- Feel free to substitute flank steak with ribeye or sirloin for different textures and flavors.
- You can add mushrooms or hot peppers for additional flavor variations.
- Leftovers can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the steak or veggies while cooking.
